Dear Me,
I’ve been meaning to thank you.
Not for the easy things—
the graceful exits rehearsed in movies,
the tidy courage that arrives on cue—
but for the kind of leaving that trembles at the edges
and happens anyway.
You walked away when the room still expected you to stay.
That was the moment everything changed.
At the time, it didn’t look heroic.
It looked inconvenient.
It looked misunderstood.
It looked like a quiet scandal
of a woman choosing herself
without filing an apology first.
But looking back now—
with the calm arithmetic of distance—
I see it clearly.
You were the asset.
Not the loud kind that depreciates under attention,
not the decorative kind that shines for a season—
but the rare kind:
value that compounds with time,
interest paid in wisdom,
dividends in peace.
Meanwhile—
well.
Let’s just say some investments
Looks impressive in the beginning
and age… less gracefully.
No bitterness here.
Just good accounting.
It turns out walking away
was the most profitable decision
of your life.
You left with your dignity intact,
Your instincts are still speaking,
Your future is uncollateralized.
You took the long-term strategy.
And if I’m honest—
The only thing I might revise,
with the gentle sass of hindsight,
is timing.
I might have left sooner.
Not because the story was wasted—
Every chapter sharpened your discernment—
But because you didn’t need nearly that long
to realize what you already knew.
Still, I admire your patience.
You stayed long enough to confirm the lesson,
but not long enough to lose yourself.
That balance—
that exquisite, dangerous balance—
It is a form of genius.
So today, I write this letter
not with regret
but with gratitude.
Thank you for trusting the quiet voice
that said,
There is more for you than this.
Thank you for walking out
without waiting for applause.
Thank you for understanding
that peace is the only luxury
that never goes out of style.
And thank you—most of all—
for recognizing your worth
before the market caught up.
With admiration, humor, and compound returns,
Me—
