It was the ultimate test.
I looked at the door
and said goodbye
long and slow.
No performance.
No rancor.
No need to make the exit louder
than the lesson.
The shadows removed themselves
from the architecture
of what was still becoming,
and somewhere
in the sphere of the unknown,
the instrument of my life
began to tune itself again.
As they once uttered,
the way you live
is the way you die.
So I choose to live
with grace.
I choose to release
with discernment.
I choose to let the current move
without forcing the sea
to explain the tide.
There is no need
to push what has already loosened.
Let it go.
The lever did not lie.
It simply released
what could no longer remain
and dispersed it
into yesterday’s abyss.
Call it closure.
Call it completion.
Call it sacred surrender.
I call it alignment.
Watch it flow
with the ebb and flow of life.
Even the heavy angles
give illumination
to what must be said,
what must be done,
and what must finally
be left behind.
I stayed
in the alignment of love.
I stayed
in the discipline of growth.
I stayed
with my dignity intact,
my spirit clear,
and my heart
no longer begging
for what was not brave enough
to meet me.
So I say goodbye
with reverence.
See you
at the other end
if you make it.
And if not,
it was great.
It was necessary.
It was a passage.
And I walk forward now,
luminous, unburdened,
and fully returned
to myself–
